Singer-songwriter and poet of international fame, Felix Leclerc (1914-1988) is considered the father of Quebec song. He has seen his work crowned by numerous awards including the Charles Cros Academy Award, the Prix Calixa-Lavallée and the Prix Denise-Pelletier. The Prix Félix (Quebec equivalent to the Grammys), given to Quebec singers, is named in his honour.
Jean Dallaire (1916-1965), highly-reputed painter and illustrator, took drawing and painting courses in several cities, including Montreal and Toronto, before living in Paris in the late 1930s where he continued his training. After the war, he returned to Canada and taught at the École des Beaux-Arts in Quebec before taking a job at the National Film Board of Canada as a draftsman.
